Go Fossicking at Mount Magnet

Shire President Jorgen Jensen shares what makes Mount Magnet a special place to call home.

The Shire of Mount Magnet is located just over 500 kilometres north of Perth, in WA’s arid Mid West region.

The town of Mount Magnet itself is best known as a historic gold mining town, being Western Australia’s longest continuous goldmining centre since 1891.

Nowadays, it’s a well-established country town and busting hub for mining and pastoral industries.

Shire President Jorgen Jensen says his favourite thing about Mount Magnet is the local community; “The best thing about it is the people and the climate” he says.

“Anyone visiting Mount Magnet really needs to stop by and have a good look at the landscape, there is an active mining industry, there's an active geological landscape to look at, and a lot of historic things to see” says Jorgen.

On your next trip to the area, why not try your luck at fossicking for gold, go on one of the many heritage walk trails or bring along a telescope and stargaze at the clear night sky.

“Come to Mount Magnet and experience what we have to offer” says Jorgen.
