Enjoy Being Part of a Community in the Shire of Woodanilling

Shire of Woodanilling President Russel Thomson talks about being part of a close-knit community.

Russel Thomson has played a part on the Shire of Woodanilling for over 30 years, and is the current President. “I enjoy it with a passion, and I put my hand up because I thought I could make a difference”, he says.

The local community may be small, but it is close-knit and caring, and the Shire’s focus is to build on that. “We've recently built seven well-aged homes”, explains Mr Thomson, “and we're very proud of our community built recreation centre”.

The Shire of Woodanilling is around 2.5 hours’ drive from Perth and boasts great native flora and fauna. As a result it is popular with birdwatchers and is an ideal place to see native wildflowers in bloom.

Another of the Shire’s draw-cards is Queerearrup Lake. With significant historical value, the lake offers the community a place for recreational activities such as boating, swimming, and water skiing.
