Hear Shire President, Mike Walmsley talk about what his Council does for the Waroona community.
As a farmer, Cr Mike Walmsley has always been involved in his local community, but when he decided to serve on Council this involvement increased. He is now the Shire of Waroona President and his farming and Council work keeps him busy.
“I didn't expect the amount of time that it would take, and I guess the huge volumes of reading,” he admits.
The Shire of Waroona isn’t a large one, and to enable the Council to provide the best services and facilities possible for the local community, the Shire has entered into a resource sharing agreement with a neighbouring Council. Cr Walmsley explains,
“We already had some resource sharing in place - we've moved to the next stage and we're actually sharing a CEO at this point in time, and that's early days but it's working tremendously well”.
What is the best thing about the Shire of Waroona Council? “We've got a lot of passionate Councillors and staff that spend significant amounts of time in our community and on all sorts of issues,” answers Cr Walmsley.
