WA’s Oldest Inland Town

The Shire of York is ever-changing and there is plenty for visitors to enjoy.

Established in 1931, York is the oldest inland town in WA. Today, there is plenty to keep visitors entertained when they are in the Shire of York. The Shire’s Acting CEO, Allen Cooper explains more;

“We've got walk trails, mountain bike routes and scenic lookouts. You can spend hours just meandering down the Main Street.”

Located just over an hours’ drive from Perth, the Shire of York is the perfect destination for a daytrip, but there is enough to keep visitors busy if they have a few days to fill too. Popular tourist attractions include the Motor Museum, the Old Courthouse & Gaol and the Swinging Bridge.

The Council supports community groups and events, which means that there is always something happening in the Shire. Mr Cooper urges you to make York your “go-to destination” each year. “Things change, more events come on board - it is a place to come,” he explains.

Visit the Shire of York website to find out what’s happening in, and around, the town.
