Shire of Ashburton President Kerry White talks about what her phenomenal region has to offer for tourism and why she thinks young people should get involved in Local Government.
Hi, I’m Kerry White, Shire President of Ashburton, which includes Tom Price, Paraburdoo, Pannawonica and Onslow. I have been in Local Government for 12 years, and the reason I joined Local Government was to get things for our town in Onslow and the rest of the other towns as well.
Our region is phenomenal, we’ve got Karijini National Park,we’ve got Millstream, we’ve got the Monte Bellos and the Mackerel Islands and so for tourism, it’s a very rich region to be in and very active at the moment.
My Council helps our community by providing all the infrastructure for them. Young people should get involved in Local Government as it’s very rewarding experience and you’ll get a lot of pleasure out of it, especially seeing projects that you are passionate about get finished.
You’ll meet lots of people and try your best for your communities and there’s a lot of satisfaction to be gained. I encourage people to join Local Government. From the reef to the range we’ve got it all in Ashburton.
