Perenjori: The Heart of Wildflower Country

Shire of Perenjori CEO Mario Romeo tells us why Perenjori is the best kept secret in the Mid-West.

Nestled in the heart of WA’s Mid-West, the Shire of Perenjori is a region of scenic landscapes and old-fashioned country charm just waiting to be explored.

“Perenjori is very much an old established West Australian farming town… the people are genuine, and they are passionate about their community” says Shire CEO Mario Romeo.

Perenjori has a number of natural attractions with a fantastic wildflower season that runs from July to October each year.  “Come and see our magnificent wildflowers, especially our wreath flower, take a walk up the John Forrest lookout and experience the magnificent views” says Mario.

A popular spot for picnics and camping is ‘Camel Soak’, a historical site just east of Perenjori with fascinating rock formations, vivid colours and an abundance of native flora and fauna.

The site was named Camel Soak as it was originally a watering hole for men and their camels working on the No.2 Rabbit Proof Fence from 1903 to 1905.

For those wanting to stay closer to town, Mario says you can’t go past a traditional country-style meal and a cold beer at the Perenjori Pub, or a coffee at the Wheat Bean CafĂ©.

“Next time you're coming to the Mid-West, come to Perenjori, stay overnight, and experience our night sky” he says.
