City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder CEO, John Walker talks about the opportunities in his Shire.
The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder is 600km from Perth and has a population of over 30,000 people. Accordingly to the City’s CEO, John Walker, Kalgoorlie-Boulder is the place to be,
“It's a great place to earn a good living. It's a liveable town, there's lots of facilities.”
Thanks to the gold rush of the 1890s, Kalgoorlie-Boulder is a city built on mining, and it is still the major industry today. “We're an economic powerhouse,” says John. “We deliver about $14 billion of gross regional product every year”.
The Council is keen to encourage people to move to the city to live and work. As a result, the Council works hard to provide facilities and infrastructure for the community.
“We invest heavily in arts and culture, we invest heavily in sport and recreation. We're a driver in the economic space, so we are encouraging and supporting industry,” says John.
