City of Karratha Mayor, Peter Long talks about the wonderful facilities in the City of Karratha, which includes the Karratha Leisureplex and the Red Earth Arts Precinct.
My name is Peter Long, I’m the Mayor of the City of Karratha. I’ve been a Councillor here for seven years and I’ve lived in Karratha itself for 33 years.
I tried for Council and I got elected in 2011 and I became Mayor in 2013. We’ve really turned the town around and people love living here now. But we’re still a long way from anywhere and we have to have a number of programs going to try and attract people to the town. Once they get here, they love it, but we still need to attract them to the town.
We built the Karratha Leisureplex, which is a combined sporting facility and gymnasium and business centre. It has large rooms that people can hire out for various functions, it’s been a huge success.
The Red Earth Arts Precinct combines a theatre, with a cinema, the library and an art gallery. All these various facilities improve the liveability of the town and people love living here.
