Carnarvon’s link to NASA Moon Landings

People may be surprised to hear Carnarvon played a role in the NASA moon landings. Cr and Chairman of the Carnarvon Space and Technology Museum, Phil Youd explains the Shire’s history with space.

Phil Youd is a Councillor at the Shire of Carnarvon and chairman of the Carnarvon Space and Technology Museum.

The museum is in two parts: one part is about NASA and the other part is about OTC which evolved into Telstra. A lot of people might be surprised to know that Carnarvon played an important role in the NASA moon landings.

There are a lot of artefacts inside the Museum so people can actually seethe technology of the day and can feel part of the Space Launch as well, they can go in a full-size capsule and feel like they're launching to the moon.

The capsule was built so people can get the appreciation of how small they really were and the dish that was important in the NASA missions by relaying all the communications and data back to Houston.

So when you come to Carnarvon make sure you stop off at the Carnarvon Space and Technology Museum, it's unique to WA.
