Batavia Coast History at Geraldton Museum

Geraldton Museum Regional Manager Lee O’Brien talks about the history of the Batavia Coast and exhibits at the museum.

Hi, my name’s Lee O’Brien. I’m the Regional Manager of the Museum of Geraldton.

Museum of Geraldton is located in the Batavia Coast Marina in Geraldton, and we tell the stories of the people, culture and environment of the mid-west region. We feature in particular, the stories of the four Dutch shipwrecks from the 17th and 18th century, including the infamous Batavia story. We also feature From Great Depths, which is an exhibit and 3D film all about the HMAS Sydney and the HSK Kormoran. And we have displays that also feature stories of the Yamaji people and culture from this region, and the history of Geraldton.

The Museum is open 7 days a week, from 9:30am – 3:00pm. Entry is free, we do appreciate a voluntary donation. We have a fantastic shop. So make sure you’re in Geraldton, be sure to come and check us out.
